Urban Bakery

I don’t make it over to Greenlake very often, so it was a pleasant change of pace to be walking around the park and exploring the little pockets of neighborhoods along the shore.  I decided to stop in at Urban Bakery for a quick round of blogging (and snacks) before continuing the trek.

The location is convenient if you’re out for a stroll – it’s at the northernmost tip of the lake, right across the street from the walking path. They sell coffee, sandwiches, and baked goods. I had done a little research on Yelp earlier that day, and decided to steer clear of the scones in favor of the cookies. I opted for a classic chocolate chip cookie (really, who can resist?):

It tasted a little like the packaged cookie dough you buy at the grocery store, but in this case, it’s a good thing. I mean, let’s be honest, who doesn’t like grocery store cookie dough? Of course, this was BETTER than that, with a generous allotment of chips and a melt-in-your-mouth texture. It made me want to try more of their cookies, but to be open-minded I went for a brownie next:

Which, despite the walnuts and powered sugar (both good touches) was a little bit of a letdown after the cookie.  I don’t know if it’s just me, but so many desserts taste too salty, this one included. Everything else was just right (texture, chocolate, etc) but the salt seemed too noticeable. To be fair, I gave half to my friend, who declared it “amazing,” so it really might just be me.

However, I will most definitely be returning for more cookies.
