Elliott Bay Cafe

Heaven is a bookstore with a good bakery (for me, anyway). So it shouldn’t be surprising that Elliott Bay Bookstore is one of my favorite Seattle institutions. I can spend hours browsing their books – and do, on a regular basis. But what makes it even better is knowing that my intellectual pursuits will be crowned with a treat from the Elliott Bay Cafe, conveniently located near the cooking section:

The EBC has two locations: one at the previous bookstore site in Pioneer Square, and one at the bookstore’s new home in Capitol Hill. In addition to serving up delicious breakfasts and lunches, the EBC bakes their own cookies, brownies, bars, etc. I chose the brownie this time around:

… and it was really, really good (strong cocoa flavor, just the right amount of almonds, etc) but I have to say that what really wowed me was the 4-cheese and heirloom tomato grilled sandwich.  Now, I know it’s a dessert blog, but really, who can resist posting something this beautiful:

Plus, the fat content was probably double what was in the brownie… but well worth every bite!!!
