Stopsky’s Deli

October 1, 2012

You don’t have to be Jewish to love a traditional, East coast, Jewish deli, and I’ve enjoyed my fair share of them. In fact, it’s one of the few things I wish Seattle had more of (along with bagels, black & white cookies, and real maple syrup). So I had no problem making the trip to Mercer Island one Sunday to try out Stopsky’s Deli, which bills its food as “Traditional, Updated.”  After eating a delicious breakfast, I was told to try the morning bun (and since I don’t trust rugelach outside of NYC, I went along with it).

Good, but could have been a little more yeasty and sticky. Luckily, I had read ahead on Yelp that the lemon bars were the way to go, so I got one for the road:

I have to say it was one of the best lemon bars I’ve had, and I’m very picky (has to be on the tart side, thin shortbread, and really lemony). In terms of the overall food, I remain loyal to the East Coast (does Jewish deli tradition really NEED to be updated?) but I’d come back for the lemon bar!
